About Bucket Mate

The purpose of Bucket Mate is to help you find and complete the things you want to do, see, and acomplish before you kick the bucket.

Evolution of an Idea

The idea for Bucket Mate was not a “light-bulb” moment. The idea evolved through a set of events and circumstances.

At the recommendation of a friend and co-worker, I read The Four-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. The book simply make the case of working less and doing more of what you wanted to do. Novel idea, right?

During this time, I was going through a divorce and wondering what I was going to do with my life. I decided to take a trip. I had heard about a place in Peru, South America called Machu Picchu.

I didn’t want to wait around to see if anyone could join me, so I booked the trip and ventured off to South America. I caught the travel and adventure bug while hiking through the Andes Mountains and camping under the stars at 15,000 feet.

When I came back, I reread The Four-Hour Work Week, quit my job, and started putting my bucket list together. I decided that learning to surf in Costa Rica was going to be next on my list.

Why Bucket Mate

After my divorce, I realized that our life on this planet is short and often times no matter how much we plan for our future things inevitably change.

I made the decision to write down my bucket list and start sharing the list with others. This simple act not only helped me keep this list in my mind, but also gave me some accountability with my friends and family.

Had I just kept those hopes and dreams for my life inside, I know that the likelihood of completing my bucket list would be drastically reduced.

Bucket Mate is Born

After multiple fruitless attempts at finding an easy way to track and find new ideas to add to my bucket list, I decided to build Bucket Mate.

The site is a work in progress and with the help of all our users we will be able to create a tool to help all of us live a bucket filled life.
